Pedestrian Killed By Train ID'd As Lemont Woman, 47: Coroner

Lemont Police told Patch that Riegler was with her two children. Both children are unharmed.

LEMONT, IL — A woman fatally struck by a train in downtown Lemont on Saturday has been identified as Elizabeth Riegler, 47, of Lemont, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

Lemont Police said it continues to investigate the incident, which happened on the railroad tracks at Stephen and Main streets.

The incident involved an Amtrak train traveling from San Antonio, Texas; to Chicago, according to Amtrak. Police said the train was traveling eastbound through town. The traffic gates were down at the time of the incident, the flashing lights were working, and the train horn was sounding.

Lemont Police told Patch that Riegler was with her two juvenile children. Both children are unharmed.

“Our sincere condolences go to the family of Elizabeth Riegler who passed away following this horrific event. Please keep the family in your thoughts and prayers, as well as those that witnessed this tragic event,” Mayor John Egofske said in a release.
