New Traffic Signal Design Approved For Lemont Intersection

The Village has approved an agreement for design engineering for the new traffic signal.

LEMONT, IL — A new traffic light is in the works for the intersection of 131st Street and Derby Road after a professional services agreement for design engineering was approved at Monday's Lemont Village Board meeting.

The agreement is between the Village and HR Green, Inc., for a cost not to exceed $54,606.51.

"There's a lot going on in that area in the near future; bike paths and a park," Public Works Director Ralph Pukula said at the meeting. "The county is recommending that we do a traffic signal."

The Lemont Park District is currently planning Derby Farms Park near the intersection. According to Board documents, the county recommended the signal due to the increase in traffic the park will bring.

The Village is exploring funding sources for the construction, but the project needs to be designed quickly for the park timeline, Board documents state.
