Former Lemont Football Standout David Molk Featured on ESPN

Former football standout David Molk is no stranger to the media, having earned a handful of honors during his time at the University of Michigan.

In a recent feature on ESPN, however, we see a more personal side of Molk, who lost his mother to cancer when he was in eighth grade.

Molk led Michigan to an 11-2 record in the 2011 season, picking up numerous accolades along the way.

Last month, Molk was named the winner of the , which is presented each year to the nation's most outstanding center.

"I am truly humbled to be the Rimington Trophy recipient," Molk said. "It's such an honor considering all of the great centers around the country, including the other finalists. It's an individual award, but it's a credit to our offensive line, our team and our coaching staff.

"I'm proud to represent the University of Michigan."

Molk, who graduated from Lemont in 2007, is a fifth-year senior for the Wolverines and served this season as a .

Last year marked the third consecutive year he was named to the Rimington Trophy "watch list," and the second year he was a finalist.

During the awards show, Molk also was named a first team All-American by the Walter Camp Foundation.

In November, he was of the inaugural Rimington-Pace Offensive Lineman of the Year award.

This fall, Molk repeated as a first-team All-Big Ten honoree on the coaches' ballot, and earned second-team all-conference honors from the media. He made his 26th consecutive start Jan. 3 in Michigan's 23-20 victory over Virginia Tech in the Allstate Sugar Bowl.

Molk finished his career at Michigan with 42 starts in his four seasons at center.

He is expected to enter the NFL draft, ranking among the top prospects at his position.
