Whiz Kid's Accomplishment: Brown will participate in the upcoming Illinois Music Educators Association (IMEA) All-State Conference, which will be held from Jan. 25-28, 2012, at the Peoria Civic Center. She earned a berth to the competition by performing at the IMEA All-District Festival at Downers Grove South on Nov. 19. Fellow juniors Vince Dory (bass clarinet) and David Spinelli (clarinet) also took part in the All-District Festival.
Whiz Kid's Key to Awesomeness: Each year, the IMEA All-State Conference attracts the top performers from across the state. The event includes guest conductors, seminars and a number of concert performances.
Brown will audition against the state's eight other district winners in the contrabass clarinet category. The audition will determine what band she places into, as well as which chair she will hold in that band.
The IMEA All-State Concert and IMEA Honors Concert will be held at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. (respectively) on Jan. 28. A $5 ticket gains entry to both performances.
Brown, Dory and Spinelli all advanced to the IMEA All-District Festival after IMEA auditions (among up to 2,000 other students) at Sandburg High School this fall. All three serve as first chairs in their respective sections in the Lemont High School Symphonic Band.
