Lisle Police To Target Drunk Drivers For Thanksgiving Traffic Crackdown

Police will increase patrols as part of a statewide effort to curb drunk driving during the Thanksgiving holiday.

LISLE, IL— As Thanksgiving approaches, drivers in Lisle are likely to see more cops patrolling the village streets. Increased enforcement will lead up to the holiday and span Thanksgiving weekend in an effort to increase traffic safety.

Lisle Police recommend taking the following measures to help ensure a safe holiday:

  • Do not drive high or drunk
  • Use a ride service or call a cab
  • Take public transit
  • Designate a sober driver
  • Make sure drivers and passengers are buckled up

“Thanksgiving brings more festivities and longer trips which equals more vehicles out on
the roadways,” Sergeant William Wise said in a statement.

Wise added, “Seat belts remain one of the simplest and most effective ways to save your life in a crash. So, we are asking every driver and passenger to buckle up, every trip, every time — and make a plan for a sober ride before the celebrations begin. If you drink alcohol or use cannabis, don’t drive.”

The increased patrols will take place Nov. 21 through Dec. 2. Part of the statewide "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" and "Click It or Ticket" initiatives, Lisle's Thanksgiving safety crackdown is funded in part by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
