Track Changing Leaves With Morton Arboretum's Fall Color Report
The weekly Fall Color Report gets updated on Wednesdays to help Arboretum guests find the best time to visit to take in the changing leaves.

LISLE, IL — Morton Arboretum's Fall Color Report is up and running for the 2025 season, giving residents the inside scoop on the season's changing leaves. The weekly report is updated on Wednesdays to show the progress of leaves on different types of trees at the arboretum.
"The timing and intensity of fall color are unique to individual trees and species," Arboretum Senior Scientist in Forest Ecology Dr. Christy Rollinson said in a statement.
Rollinson added, "While other areas may have one brief peak when sugar maples turn, our collections create an extended fall color season that gives visitors more opportunities to see brilliant displays from early October through late October, and beyond into November."

In early fall, visitors will notice leaves changing color on honey locust Virginia creepers and on trees that are in sunny spots throughout the arboretum grounds. In total there are more than 4,000 species of trees, vines and shrubs that will show off their brilliant leaves this fall.
"Because most trees haven't shut down for fall yet, continuing to water your trees is beneficial," Rollinson said. "Conditions moving into October will influence timing and intensity – particularly moisture levels as days shorten and nights get colder."
