Unload Unwanted Jack-O'-Lanterns, Gourds At Pumpkin Composting Event In Lisle

SCARCE and Lakeshore Recycling have teamed up to host a pumpkin composting event in Lisle.

LISLE, IL — Now that Halloween has passed, those fast-decaying Jack-o'-Lanterns are ready to be repurposed. Lakeshore Recycling and SCARCE are teaming up to host a pumpkin composting event at the Lisle Village Hall parking lot on Nov. 8.

To be accepted, pumpkins must not be painted or have any accessories affixed to them. Candles, stickers and other items must be taken from the pumpkin before it can be composted.

According to a post from the Village of Lisle, most pumpkins processed in the United States have been grown in Illinois and composting pumpkins in Lisle "helps keep the water and nutrients local."
