Man Attacks, Stabs Woman With Scissors, Witness Tackles Assailant: Monee PD

The incident happened Tuesday evening near Ridgeland Avenue and Monee Manhattan Road, police said.

MONEE, IL — A Good Samaritan is being credited for stopping a domestic attack that left a woman stabbed and bleeding in a ditch Tuesday evening, Monee police said Wednesday.

On March 4, at approximately 6 p.m., Monee Police were called to Ridgeland Avenue near Monee Manhattan Road. The caller told police that a woman was lying in the ditch bleeding and a man was armed with scissors, police said.

Police at the scene found the victim on the ground, and one man being restrained by another, officials said. Police said officers secured the armed suspect, and provided aid to the woman until paramedics arrived.

While securing the scene, police determined that a domestic incident between the man and woman became physical on Monee Manhattan Road. As they were turning north onto Ridgeland Avenue, the woman attempted to leave the car and was attacked by the male driver, police said.

The car came to a stop, and the man chased the woman into the ditch, attacking her and taking her to the ground, according to police. A witness traveling behind the couple saw what was happening and tackled the male subject, restraining him until police arrived.

A pair of scissors was recovered at the scene, police said. Medical personnel determined that the 48-year-old Schaumburg woman had been stabbed multiple times. She was taken to a local hospital. Her injuries were believed to be non-life-threatening, police said.

Lenear Harris, 57, with a last known address in Beach Park, Illinois, is being
held at the Will County Jail. Will County States Attorney James Glasgow has approved charges of aggravated domestic battery, aggravated battery, domestic battery and battery. More charges could be forthcoming, police said. Will County Jail records indicate his town of residence as Gurnee.

The victim told investigators that things could have been much worse if not for the driver who stopped and assisted, according to police. Investigators credit the 32-year-old Lansing man with ending the attack.
