1 Dead, 1 Hurt In Two-Vehicle Crash Saturday In Manhattan

A 23-year-old man from Northlake was killed in the head-on crash, and a 25-year-old woman from Lemont had non-life threatening injuries.

MANHATTAN, IL — One person was killed and one person was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries following a two-vehicle crash in Manhattan Saturday, according to the Will County Sheriff's Office. The Will County Coroner's Office first made the announcement Sunday on its Facebook page.

Felix J. Covarrubias, 23, of Northlake, was the driver of a 2012 Mazda that collided with a 2019 Toyota SUV at approximately 3:45 p.m. Saturday near the intersection of South Cedar Road and Bruns Road, according to the WCSO. Covarrubias was pronounced dead at approximately 5 p.m. Saturday, according to the Coroner's Office.

Witnesses told Will County Sheriff's deputies that Covarrubias was traveling northbound on Cedar Road and had been swerving in the roadway, according to the WCSO. Covarrubias crossed into southbound lane and struck the Toyota SUV head on, according to the WCSO.

The Toyota SUV ended up off the roadway and into a ditch, according to the WCSO. The driver — identified only as a 25-year-old woman from Lemont — was taken to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox with non-life threatening injuries, according to the WCSO.

An autopsy Sunday showed Covarrubias "sustained multiple injuries," according to the Coroner's Office.
