Woman Fatally Struck By Freight Train In Kankakee: Police

The incident happened early Monday, police said. Authorities are working to confirm the woman's identity.

KANKAKEE, IL — Kankakee police on Tuesday are working to identify a woman who was fatally struck by a freight train, according to a release.

At 6:30 a.m. March 11, police were called to the 2200 block of South Kensington Avenue for a report of a pedestrian hit by a train.

Police found a woman who had been struck by a southbound Canadian National train.

Kankakee police, in coordination with the Kankakee County Coroner’s Office, Canadian National Police, and the Kankakee Fire Department, initiated an investigation at the scene. Authorities are currently working to confirm the identity of the victim, Police Chief Christopher Kidwell said.

Following a review of surveillance footage, preliminary findings indicate that the incident does not appear to be accidental. The investigation remains active as law enforcement officials gather further evidence and conduct interviews.
