Drug Take Back Day Planned For April 30 In Mokena

Residents can drop off unused or expired medications at the Mokena Police Department.

MOKENA, IL — The Mokena Police Department is again partnering with the Drug Enforcement Administration's National Prescription Drug Take Back Day scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 30.

Residents can drop off unused or expired medication to the Mokena Police Department, 10907 Front St. All pills, capsules and tablets must be removed from their containers and placed into zip-lock baggies. No liquids or needles/syringes will be accepted. Illicit drugs will also not be accepted.

Th National Take Back Day happens twice a year, in April and again in October, according to the DEA. This April's event marks the 22nd time the initiative will have taken place.

“The success of DEA’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day events is not possible without working together with our local law enforcement partners and healthcare providers,” said Special Agent in Charge of the DEA Chicago Division, Robert J. Bell. “The large amounts of unwanted prescription drugs collected on Take Back Day each year reflect our shared commitment to the safety and health of our communities.”

Nearly 105,000 pounds of unneeded medications were turned in to drop-off locations throughout Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin through Take Back Day in October 2021, according to the DEA.
