Adopt Me! Sophie, Zander, Tilly and Gardenia

Looking for a new addition to the family? Here are some cuddly cats and dogs who are looking for homes. These are just a few of the adoptable pets at area shelters.

Sofie has been at A.D.O.P.T. since March of this year and is 3 years old.  She is gentle and loving and people often comment about her big, beautiful eyes.  She has been seen by a specialist due to a taurine deficiency, which she has had since she was a kitten causing her eyes to be dilated and unusual.  She might not see as well as most cats, but it doesn't seem to bother her.  She can see well enough to play with feather toys and chase beams of light.  She is looking for someone who enjoys quiet times — could that someone be you?

Zander is an adorable 1 ½-year-old spaniel-Chihuahua mix.  Before his new life at Zander lived in a home where he was forced to live outdoors tied to a tree.  Animal control rescued this little guy (all 12 lbs. of him) and he's as happy as can be in his new safe environment.  Zander is friendly and playful.  He likes other dogs and especially loves to play catch with the larger breed dogs.

For more information about any of the cats and dogs we have available for adoption, please contact A.D.O.P.T. Pet Shelter at 630-355-2299.  The shelter is a no-kill, nonprofit, animal shelter at 420 Industrial Drive, Naperville.  Visit us at www.adoptpetshelter.org.

Gardenia is a 2-year-old female domestic shorthair.  She was found as a stray just before New Year’s Eve and has been waiting for a forever home ever since.  She’s had a hard time adjusting to life at the shelter; all the sounds and people are a bit intimidating for her.  Once she gets to know somebody, she loves to snuggle and give affection.  Because she can be a bit shy, kids in her new home should be a bit older.  She doesn’t seem to mind the company of other calm cats, and a cat savvy dog would probably be okay.  Do you have room in your heart to show this gentle kitty that the world isn’t such a scary place?

Tilly is a 4-year-old female American Staffordshire terrier mix.  She was adopted from as a puppy and was recently returned when her family no longer had time to care for her.  She is an active girl who loves to play and would enjoy daily walks and a lot of attention.  She loves to play fetch and snuggle on the couch.  Tilly would prefer to be the only pet in her new home, and likes kids old enough to play a little rough.  This sweet girl would make a great addition to an active home, could it be with you?

More dogs and cats are available at the Naperville Area Humane Society. All the animals have been examined for health and temperament, started on their vaccines and microchipped. They are spayed or neutered at adoption. Hours are 5 to 8 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays, 1 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays and noon to 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. Visit at 1620 W. Diehl Rd. in Naperville or online at www.napervilleareahumanesociety.org.
