Lane Closures Expected During City Sewer Repair Project

Starting this month, the city of Naperville will be repairing almost 2,000 feet of concrete sanitary sewer pipe and eight manholes that are located in the area of Route 59 and McDowell Road.

The work will take place along Route 59 from McDowell Road south to Argyll Lane and along McDowell Road east of Route 59 and continue through mid-October.

Residents and motorists can expect to experience some temporary inconveniences during the project, including contractor equipment parking, 24-hour-a-day noise from the operation of the installation and pumping equipment and minor traffic control interruptions. The eastbound lane to McDowell Road off of northbound Route 59 will be closed when needed for the work and traffic will be detoured to Diehl Road. Residents and motorists should expect delays and are encouraged to seek alternate routes of travel whenever possible.

This project involves lining existing sewer pipe with cured-in-place pipe. This type of pipe was chosen because of the difficult area in which the sewer main is located. The process involves inserting a flexible liner into the existing sewer pipe and heating resin until it is hard. This method eliminates tree loss, prevents the disturbance of nearby landscaping and avoids long-term traffic inconveniences. A cost effective and efficient way to repair underground pipelines, this method of sewer rehabilitation will add another 50 to 100 years of life to the sanitary sewer system.

Residents in the area should note that any damage that may occur to the construction site or adjacent grounds will be repaired and restored to pre-construction conditions. To ensure this, the city’s contractor Pipevision, Inc. and the city will video tape all above ground structures. Prior to the start of construction, city representatives may require access to private property and will ask permission before entering.
