Bentley School Fine Arts Night

Bentley School Fine Arts Night featured everything from music to martial arts demonstrations.

Bentley School's Fine Arts Night April 18 brought together families, community organizations and volunteers to celebrate  with music and crafts.

Students and their families were able to experience a night of fun activities at Bentley School with the help local organizations.  New Lenox Library and New Lenox Park District had information about summer camps and reading programs that children could sign up for. The New Lenox Police and New Lenox Fire Protection District were also on hand to talk about safety during the upcoming summer months.

Lincoln-Way Central and Lincoln-Way West High Schools brought along their mascots and information about summer camps for interested students. Tiger Kwon’s Martial Arts studio had a spectacular demonstration for the audience that included the breaking of boards.  All of these organizations helped make this night a huge success for the school and for students and families.

Artwork was on display from each student that followed the theme "Lets Move with Circles." Fourth grade students created optical illusions, 5th-grade student made prints of radial designs, and 6th grade student made paper pendants to be on display.

Families had a great time creating a mural with recycled bottle caps that faculty and families collected over the past month. The final mural was eye catching and colorful. Other stations included creating with model magic clay and making a circle design with crayons and paper.

Music projects that the students created were also on display. Using the website OddMusic.com as inspiration, 4th grade students were able to let their imaginations run wild and create their own designs for a musical instrument. It was great to see such creativity and writing skills on display. Visitors were able to play Boomwhackers that the 6th grade students made.

Boomwhackers are a pitched percussion instrument and are plastic tubes cut to a length to sound a certain pitch when struck on the floor. The Boomwhackers fit with their science lessons, as students learned about wavelength and frequency and why some pitches fit together and some do not. The 5th graders projects about jazz musician were also on display. Students were able to get familiar with jazz music during the month of April, which is Jazz Appreciation Month. They also learned about how the jazz style helped to influence American pop music!
