Niles Woman, 33, Dead In Suspected DUI Crash; Niles Girl, 4, Seriously Injured: Police

In total, four people were injured and one person was killed in the three-vehicle crash in northern Lake County on Saturday night.

LAKE COUNTY, IL — A woman from Niles is dead and four others were injured — including a 4-year-old girl — in a three-vehicle crash in Lake County over the Fourth of July weekend.

Meanwhile, a 58-year-old Addison man will "likely" be charged in connection with the collision that authorities say he caused at about 10:15 p.m. on Saturday on West Russell Road and Frontage Road in Wadsworth, according to a news release from the Lake County Sheriff's Office.

The crash happened when a 2020 Porsche Macan, driven by the Addison man, was headed west on Russell Road and approaching a stop sign at Frontage Road. The Porsche — while driving at a "high rate of speed" — crashed into the rear of a 2016 Chevrolet Volt, which was stopped at the stop sign.

The Chevrolet then crashed into a 2020 Mercedes-Benz, which was also stopped at the stop sign in front of the Chevrolet, according to the news release.

A passenger in the Chevrolet, a 33-year-old Niles woman, was taken to an area hospital where she died, authorities said.

The driver and another passenger, a 4-year-old Niles girl, were taken to the hospital with serious injuries that are not considered life-threatening. The driver of the Mercedes-Benz, a 40-year-old Schaumburg man, and the Addison man were also taken to an area hospital with serious injuries that are not considered life-threatening.

Police said speed and alcohol impairment "appear to be factors for the driver of the Porsche." Criminal charges are likely to be filed once he is released from the hospital, according to the news release.

As of Monday morning, the Addison man remained hospitalized, Christopher Covelli, deputy chief for the sheriff's office, said. His name will not be released until he is in custody, he said.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Team.
