Oswego Police Reveal Number Of Citations Issued During Christmas, NYE Enforcement

Over the course of about three weeks, Oswego police focused on getting impaired drivers off the road and ensuring drivers buckled up.

OSWEGO, IL — The Oswego Police Department concluded early Monday its final enforcement campaign of 2025, encompassing Christmas and New Year's Eve.

Over the course of the campaign, which began Dec. 12 and went until Jan. 5, officers issued a total of 61 citations and made two drug-related arrests, officials announced Thursday.

  • 40 improper seat belt use
  • 9 for speeding
  • 9 for electronic device use
  • 1 driving while license suspended
  • 2 for other offenses

"We can't stress it enough: impaired driving is a deadly gamble, no matter where you live," police spokesperson Cathy Nevara wrote in a statement. "Whether it's alcohol, cannabis or any other drug, driving impaired is illegal, irresponsible and puts lives at risk — yours, your passengers' and everyone else’s on the road. That’s why we do this."

The enforcement was administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation using federal highway safety funds managed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
