Anonymous Donor Leaves $1,200 Coin For Misericordia

The thrift store, which benefits Misericordia, often has loose change donated. This generous donation will help people with disabilities.

PALATINE, IL — Volunteers at Twice Blest Thrift Shop were shocked to find a $1,200 coin in their donation jar. The anonymous donation will go to benefit Misericordia Heart of Mercy, more specifically to programs for people with developmental disabilities.

"I do not believe we have ever received something that was worth this much money," Julie O'Sullivan, Misericordia's marketing director, told the Daily Herald.

The thrift store runs a "Candy Days" collection fundraiser every April, in which customers can drop their spare change in a can and grab a pack of Jelly Bellies.

"People recognize the can from our Candy Days collection and they usually put their spare change in there," volunteer Marcia Marshall told the Herald. This time, the "spare change" wasn't so modest.
