Driver Extricated After Rear-Ending Semi On Route 59: Plainfield PD

The crash happened just before 8:30 p.m. Sunday.

PLAINFIELD, IL — A driver had to be extricated from their vehicle after rear-ending a semi-trailer on Route 59 Sunday night, Plainfield police said.

Plainfield police and fire responded to the crash involving a 2008 Honda Civic and a 2023 Cascadia Freightliner near Route 59 and 127th Street at 8:18 p.m.

Investigators determined that the semi was traveling south on Route 59 when it began to turn right into the parking lot just south of 127th Street and was struck from behind by the Honda Civic, Plainfield Police Cmdr. Anthony Novak told Patch.

The driver of the Civic had to be extricated due to extensive damage to the vehicle, and was taken to Rush Copley Medical Center in Aurora with non-life-threatening injuries, Novak said.

The driver of the semi declined medical treatment. Both vehicles were towed from the scene due to damage, according to police.
