PLAINFIELD, IL — The traffic pattern changed Thursday on Lockport Street, this time shifting eastbound drivers to the north side of the street, Plainfield officials said.

The traffic pattern change allows construction to begin on the south side of the Route 126 bridge, on which the Illinois Department of Transportation began repairs at the start of June.

Westbound Lockport Street traffic will continue to be detoured using Route 59, 143rd Street and Wallin Drive for the duration of the project, which is anticipated to be completed in October, according to an alert from the Village of Plainfield.

"It has been painful for our traffic flow as this project continues, but we're halfway there," Mayor John Argoudelis wrote Wednesday evening on Facebook. "The timeline for a completion in October seems to be holding. Hang in there folks."

Pedestrian access over the Route 126 bridge, as well as vehicle access via Countryman Drive to the riverfront and West Electric Park, will be maintained throughout construction.
