Fourth Of July Gas Prices: What To Expect At The Pump In Plainfield

A record 60.6 million people​ will travel by car during Independence Day week, AAA projects.

PLAINFIELD, IL — As a record number of Americans prepare to hit the road for the Fourth of July, it's good timing that gas prices are cheaper now in Plainfield than they were a month ago, according to AAA.

AAA is projecting a record 60.6 million people will travel by car during Independence Day week, 2.8 million more than last year, Patch reported. Travel is expected to be 5 percent higher this year than last and 8 percent higher than in 2019.

In Illinois, the average gas price is $3.83 per gallon as of Wednesday, according to AAA. That's 5 cents less expensive than a week ago and 8 cents less than the average a month ago.

At around $3.97 per gallon in Will County, gas price averages were higher than the state average. The national average sits at $3.51 as of Wednesday.
