PLAINFIELD, IL — A house in downtown Plainfield will be transformed into a bed-and-breakfast-style property for guests of Santuary Events.

The Village Board unanimously green-lit the plans Monday night, granting a special use permit for the manor at 24044 W. Main St.

The house is owned by Bob and Micaela Boness and Mark and Nancy Kveton, the latter of whom own Sanctuary Events, a venue on Lockport Street.

The property, circa 1841, was previously proposed to become the Loveli Med Spa, a project that ultimately stalled, leaving the house vacant.

A condition for approval was for renters to be associated with an event at Sanctuary, according to village documents. Airbnbs are not currently allowed in Plainfield. Another stipulation stated that no events will be permitted to be held at the house.

"By definition, a bed and breakfast must be owner-occupied," Planner Alyssa Martin wrote in a memo. "Although not owner-occupied, the owners live approximately one mile from the property and rentals will only be associated with events held at the Sanctuary, as the applicant is also the owner of the event venue."

One party of up to 10 guests will be able to rent the manor at once. The first floor will have a king bedroom and a full bathroom, and the second floor will contain four bedrooms and one bathroom. Staff will include a property manager, housekeeping and a guest experience coordinator.

"The Manor complements our successful event space in Plainfield with package stays for clients, families, and their guests," Nancy Kveton wrote in a proposal.

The Plan Commission unanimously recommended the project on the basis that the proposal "was a logical reuse of the building." The owners wish to pursue landmark designation in the future, they said at the Village Board meeting.
