IDOT To Open Lanes In Will County To Reduce 4th Of July Traffic
To minimize the expected congestion over the weekend, IDOT is halting non-emergency closures, but drivers should still expect some closures.
WILL COUNTY, IL — Nearly 48 million people throughout the United States this holiday weekend, according to a forecast by AAA. To ease the expected congestion over the coming days, the Illinois Department of Transportation announced Friday it'll be opening lanes that were previously closed to minimize disruptions.
Non-emergency closures, part of the Rebuild Illinois program, will be held off from 3 p.m. Friday to 11:59 p.m. Monday where possible.
Some closures will remain this weekend due to ongoing work zones. IDOT said drivers should expect delays and allow extra time on their drives. They're also encouraged to pay attention to road conditions, detours in work zones and speed limits.
