PLAINFIELD, IL — Lockport Street bridge deck repairs began Friday, meaning the surrounding area will be subject to lane closures and detours for several months.

The Illinois Department of Transportation began repairing the bridge deck over the DuPage River on Friday. For the project, which consists of repairing the bridge deck and approaches, crews will replace expansion joints, install a new deck overlay and guardrail, and resurface the road.

The project is expected to be completed in October, IDOT said.

Lockport Street is restricted to one-way eastbound traffic between Wood Farm Road and Main Street. Westbound drivers are detoured using Route 59, 143rd Street and Wallin Drive.

Pedestrians will still be able to cross the bridge during construction. Vehicle access via Countryman Drive to the riverfront will be maintained throughout the process, Plainfield officials said.
