Memorial Day In Plainfield Marks Return Of American Legion Parade

With the Memorial Day parade in downtown Plainfield will also come some temporary street closures, police said.

PLAINFIELD, IL — Another Memorial Day is coming, which means another American Legion Marne Post 13 parade will take to the streets of downtown Plainfield.

The annual Memorial Day parade will step off at 10:45 a.m. May 27 from Ira Jones Middle School, 15320 S. Wallin Drive. The procession will travel east on Ottawa Street, enter Settlers' Park near the intersection of Van Dyke Road and Ottawa Street and continue through the park to end at the memorial within.

A wreath-laying ceremony, a rifle salute and band performances will follow the parade.

To make way for the event, some surrounding roadways will close around 10:30 a.m. and reopen when the parade reaches the memorial, expected around 11 a.m., police said.

Parade-goers will be able to park at Village Hall, along Village Center Drive, at Ira Jones Middle School, and on Van Dyke Road south of Ottawa Street. Handicapped parking will be available in the Village Hall lot.
