Susan Winter, 81, beloved wife, mother, and friend to many, passed away on October 13, 2025, with her daughter, Janet, and son, James, by her side. Born on February 4, 1944, in Joliet, IL, Susan touched the lives of countless friends and family with her wisdom, tenderness, sense of humor, and good cheer.
Susan was the matriarch of the family who loved hosting family and friends at Winter Haven for numerous holidays and other special events. She had a passion for creating art which is seen in many households and the self-created birthday cards that she often sent.
Susan is survived by her loving husband, Allen, and her children James (Katie) Kaatz, Janet (Steve) McGrath, stepdaughters Linda (Charles) Austin, and Kathy (Ken) Schultz. She also had eight grandchildren and countless friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Ethel Snook, and by her sister, Judy Brust.

Her celebration of life gathering will be held at Plainfield Congregational UCC on Sunday, December 7 at 2:00 p.m. The family suggests donations to Lightways Hospice and Serious Illness Care or to Plainfield Congregational UCC in Susan’s memory.
