Plainfield Elementary Students Start Podcast To Give 'Fellow Students A Voice'

PLAINFIELD, IL — A group of fourth- and fifth-graders at Wesmere Elementary School is giving a voice to their fellow students and spreading positivity in a new podcast.

The Wolf Pack Podcast was created this year through the school's Alpha Wolf Club leadership program, led by Megan Eberle, a speech-language pathologist, and fifth-grade teachers Clara Davidson and Ashley Richard. The club is four years old and comprises, at times, 70 fourth and fifth-graders, all of whom have a chance to be a part of an episode.

The club's mission is to foster a welcoming and respectful environment where students feel a sense of belonging, according to Plainfield Community Consolidated School District 202 officials. With the podcast, students learn to work together, be organized and hone their interpersonal skills.

"Even if a student isn’t in the podcast, they still have ways to influence the content," Davidson said, per a news release.

The first episode, launched Oct. 22, covered events, including Unity Day, Trunk or Treat and a book fair, and gave shoutouts to students and staff. The student creators also interviewed a Wesmere alum about their time at the elementary school.
