Plainfield Hate Crime Killer Dead 2 Months After Sentencing: Reports
The 73-year-old was found guilty of killing 6-year-old Wadee Alfayoumi and seriously wounding his mother, Hanan Shaheen.

PLAINFIELD, IL — Nearly three months after he was sentenced for killing a 6-year-old Palestinian-American boy and seriously wounding the child's mother in a brutal knife attack, the former Plainfield landlord convicted in the hate crime attack is dead, according to reports.
Wadee Alfayoumi was killed and his mother, Hanan Shaheen was injured in the Oct. 14, 2023 attack at the home where they rented rooms from landlord Joseph Czuba and Czuba's then-wife.
The Will County Sheriff's Office confirmed to WJOL that Czuba has died in Illinois Department of Corrections custody, the station reported.

In February, Czuba was found guilty on all charges of first-degree murder, attempted murder and two hate crimes.
Then, in early May, he was sentenced to 30 years in prison for the murder of kindergartner Wadee, 20 years for the attempted murder of Wadee's mother, and another three years for the two hate crimes. He declined to make a statement at his sentencing.

In June, a monument in memory of Wadee was dedicated in Plainfield.
