When Will Plainfield's Woodman's Grocery Store Open?
The highly anticipated grocery store, along with a fuel center, will open at the corner of 119th Street and Route 59 in Plainfield.

PLAINFIELD, IL — Residents of Plainfield and neighboring communities are highly anticipating the opening of the new Woodman's Food Market off 119th Street and Route 59.
If all goes according to plan, with no delays, Economic Development Director Jake Melrose said the store is slated to open in October 2026, per Mayor John Argoudelis.
So far, contractors have started pushing dirt, and Argoudelis expects the building to start going up later this year.

The employee-owned company, founded in 1919, purchased the 36-acre lot where it plans to open a 240,000-square-foot store and a fuel center featuring a car wash, convenience store and oil change center. The site would also feature seven outlots open to additional development, Patch reported.

With the new grocery store option will come a brand-new, fully improved intersection at 119th Street and Route 59. That entails dedicated left, right and through turn lanes, full crosswalks, and new light signals — "all the bells and whistles ... that'll help traffic flow immensely," Argoudelis told Patch in January.
As of Patch's previous update in January, the village was hopeful that Woodman's would open by the year's end.
Plainfield staff first began working with the Woodman's team immediately following Walmart's closure in March 2023 to potentially redevelop the vacant lot, but efforts were unsuccessful, Patch reported. Woodman's location would allow the grocery store to provide locals with a "better finished product than anything that was afforded to them by the former [Walmart] location."
