Romeoville Man Charged In Connection With Settlers' Park Shooting

Plainfield police said the 18-year-old is responsible for shoting a person in July at Settlers' Park.

PLAINFIELD, IL — A Romeoville man, 18, was taken into custody Thursday in connection with the July 5 shooting at Settlers' Park, Plainfield police said.

Investigators determined Joseph De Dios, of the 1900 block of West Helen Drive, to be responsible for shooting a 17-year-old boy multiple times at the park next to Village Hall on Lockport Street, according to a Friday morning news release.

When officers responded to the park at 10:44 p.m. the day after Independence Day, they found the teen conscious and breathing, Patch reported. He was taken to Rush Copley Medical Center in Aurora.

De Dios was taken into custody at about 3:11 p.m. Thursday at the newly opened Jack in the Box, 2101 Route 59, on an arrest warrant, according to a news release.

The Romeoville resident is facing 11 charges:

  • Attempted first-degree murder
  • Two counts of armed violence
  • Three counts of aggravated battery
  • Armed robbery
  • Unlawful possession of weapons
  • Aggravated unlawful use of a weapon
  • Mob action
  • Carry/possess firearm

Following his arrest, De Dios was brought to the Plainfield Police Department for processing and later transferred to the Will County Adult Detention Facility, where he remains in custody.

De Dios’s detention hearing is scheduled for Tuesday.
