See What Road Closures Are Planned For Inaugural Criterium Cycle Race

The organizer of the cycling race expects about 500 attendees to watch cyclists compete throughout the day.

PLAINFIELD, IL — The inaugural Commercial Street Criterium Cycling Race is this weekend in Plainfield.

The race will feature several competitive individual cycling races around Village Green starting at 10 a.m. Saturday and lasting until 6:30 p.m. The organizer, Sean Metz of xXx Racing, expects about 500 attendees to watch cyclists compete throughout the day, Patch reported.

Ahead of the Saturday race, police released a list of streets that will close at 9:30 a.m. to accommodate cyclists in the downtown area.

  • James Street from Commercial Street to Lockport Street
  • Illinois Street from Commercial Street to Ottawa Street
  • Commercial Street from Illinois Street to James Street
  • Chicago Street from Illinois Street to Fox River Street
  • Ottawa Street from Route 59 to James Street
  • Des Plaines Street from Chicago Street to Commercial Street
  • Fox River Street from Lockport Street to Commercial Street

No parking will be allowed will be allowed along the race route starting at 1 a.m. Saturday until the end of the event.

Streets are expected to reopen around 6:30 p.m. Route 59 will not be closed; however, drivers should expect back-ups and delays on the state route, police said.

Organizers encourage attendees to park at Plainfield Central High School, 24120 W. Fort Beggs Drive. Limited accessible parking will be available on the north side of James Street between Des Plaines Street and Illinois Street.
