PLAINFIELD, IL — A mental health crisis prompted a shelter-in-place order Monday for residents and schools in an area of Plainfield Township, the Will County Sheriff's Office said.

Deputies were dispatched at 3:15 p.m. to the 23300 block of Grinton Drive for a report of a person experiencing a mental health crisis. Law enforcement officers made contact with the person outside a residence, and after some conversation, the person complied with deputies' requests and was safely transported to a local hospital for evaluation, according to a news release.

First responders established a perimeter and, out of an abundance of caution, requested that nearby schools temporarily delay drop-offs and pick-ups, officials said. A brief shelter in place was also issued for the surrounding area for about seven minutes before it was lifted.
