PLAINFIELD, IL — Plainfield police revealed additional information about the fatal crash Oct. 6 in a crash on Heggs Road.
Police identified the skateboarder who died as Andrew J. Keys, an 18-year-old resident of Plainfield.
The preliminary investigation showed that at about 6:30 a.m. that Monday, Keys was riding a skateboard on southbound Heggs Road when a gray 2020 Nissan Rogue, driving in the same direction, struck him, Patch reported.

Keys was riding in a lane of traffic when the driver "did not see him," Cmdr. Anthony Novak told Patch in an update. That morning, the sunrise was at 6:55 a.m., meaning it was still dark out when the crash occurred.
Keys was taken to Rush Copley Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead. The Nissan driver was also transported to the Aurora hospital, but with non-life-threatening injuries.

"At this point in the investigation, there is no indication of wrongdoing on behalf of the driver so no charges are pending," Novak wrote in an email.
At the time of the crash, officials said the driver was cooperating with the case. Plainfield police continue investigating the crash.
Two GoFundMe campaigns were launched — one by the teenager's mother and another by his friends — following Keys's death. The campaign created by "Friends of Andrew" has raised close to $9,000 "to help with arrangements in his memory," organizers wrote.
