Plus, garbage and recycling pickup will start early on Wednesday due to the inclement weather.

PLAINFIELD, IL — As Plainfield is on the cusp of experiencing the first major winter storm of the season, local officials issued guidance about parking, plowing and warming shelters.

The storm, expected Wednesday, could bring 6 inches or more of snow, according to the National Weather Service. Snowfall rates of an inch per hour are possible in the afternoon and evening Wednesday.

Once plowing and salting operations commence, locals should avoid parking on the street. Overnight parking won't be allowed Wednesday night.

Due to the inclement weather, Waste Management will begin garbage and recycling pickup early. Locals should place bins at the curb by 5 a.m. and avoid leaving them in the street — instead placing them at the curb, in the parkway or on the corners of the driveway — to help mail carriers and snowplow drivers.

For those in need of shelter, the Plainfield Police Department, at 14300 Coil Plus Drive, will be open as a warming center. Anyone who needs assistance should contact the non-emergency number at 815-436-2341.

After the winter storm on Wednesday, colder temperatures are expected on Thursday and another winter system could hit the area Friday night and Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.
