Construction On Route 53 In Romeoville Finishing Late Fall

The project in Romeoville includes resurfacing and installing ADA-compliant sidewalk ramps.

ROMEOVILLE, IL — Work continues on Route 53 in Romeoville, from Romeo Road to University Parkway, according to a release from IDOT. The construction project, which started in the spring, is one of several Rebuild Illinois projects in Will County.

The project is one of six across the county, which represents a total investment of $50 million, IDOT said in a release.

“With the Rebuild Illinois capital plan, we are restoring and transforming Illinois’ aging infrastructure,” Gov. J.B. Pritzker said in a release. “Rebuild Illinois is not only about investing in infrastructure but about investing in people and communities as well. In the coming months, IDOT will undertake projects that will ultimately create safer roads and bridges and provide jobs in Will County and across the entire state.”

The project in Romeoville includes resurfacing and installing ADA-compliant sidewalk ramps.

The project is anticipated to be completed late fall, IDOT said.

Another project near Romeoville is on Joliet Road from I-55 to Sherman Road. This project includes resurfacing, building new shoulders and installing ADA-compliant sidewalk ramps, according to IDOT.

The project will start in the spring and will finish in late summer 2023.

Other projects in Will County include: Route 53 from Interstate 55 to north of St. Andrews Drive in Bolingbrook, Interstate 57 from West County Line Road to Steger Road near Steger, Illinois 1 from Union Avenue to Burville Road near Crete and U.S. 30 from Interstate 80 to east of Church Street in near New Lenox.

The projects are in addition to the ongoing $1.2 billion rebuild of Interstate 80 from Ridge Road in Minooka to U.S. 30 in Joliet and New Lenox as well as the more than $200 million planned to improve and modernize Interstate 55 through most of Will County, from Kankakee River to Illinois 83, according to IDOT.

“These projects represent another year that IDOT will be making transformational investments in Will County and all across the state,” said Illinois Transportation Secretary Omer Osman. “Please, pardon our dust while we Rebuild Illinois. When approaching and driving through any work zone, expect the unexpected and give workers a brake. Stay patient, put down the devices and slow down.”
