IL Report Card: How Valley View Schools Stack Up
Of the district's 19 schools, one is labeled underperforming, two were labeled exemplary and the rest were labeled commendable.
ROMEOVILLE, IL — All but one of Valley View School District's schools have been labeled as "exemplary" or commendable" under the recently release Illinois Report Card. One school, however, was classified as underperforming in the statewide school assessment program.
The grades are part of the Illinois Assessment of Readiness state
achievement exam, with data from the exams informing the Illinois Report Card. Of Valley View's 20 schools, two were listed as "exemplary," one was listed as "underperforming" and 16 were labeled commendable. (The district's early childhood center was not labeled.)
Jane Addams Middle School and A. Vito Martinez Middle School were both listed as exemplary, which is the highest designation, according to the report card. This is the second year in a row Jane Addams Middle School has earned Exemplary status, while this is the first year Martinez Middle School has earned exemplary designation.

“These results are an indication of the upward trajectory of all the schools in VVSD due to the dedication of both students and staff members,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. James A. Mitchem, Jr. “Jane Addams and A. Vito Martinez Middle Schools have done outstanding work to earn the Exemplary designation, and we look forward to more VVSD schools joining them with the Exemplary designation in the future.”
Irene King Elementary was listed as underperforming. It was listed as underperforming because of one sub-group of students in the school that was listed as underperforming, according to the district. The remaining district schools were classified as commendable.

The report card also crunches an average SAT score for the district, with all district high school juniors taking the standardized test.
On the English portion of the SAT, 35 percent of Valley View juniors were labeled proficient. That's up from the district's 30 percent last year but lower than the 37 percent for the state average, according to the report card. For math, 33 percent of the district students who took the SAT were deemed proficient, up from the 29 percent last year but lower than the 35 percent efficiency statewide metric.
Forty-nine percent of Valley View students ranked as proficient on the Illinois Science Assessment, down from 50 percent last year but mirroring this year's state average proficiency of 49 percent.
District 202 operating expense per pupil is $10,649, compared to the state average of $13,764, according to the Illinois Report Card.
