Improvements Planned For Schneider’s Passage In Romeoville
The project consists of parking lot improvements, the creation of a cul-de-sac and the addition of a sidewalk, a bench and landscaping.

ROMEOVILLE, IL--The Forest Preserve District of Will County has announced that work is scheduled to get underway Monday for Schneider’s Passage in Romeoville. As such, the public can expect parking lot and trailhead closures as the work progresses.
Parking improvements are scheduled to take place, expanding the lot from six to 30 spaces, and a latrine will be installed to replace a port-a-potty at the site.
The Forest Preserve District of Will County intends to update its website to inform the public about the project and its progress.

Schneider’s Passage is a trailhead for the overlapping Centennial and Veterans Memorial trails in Romeoville.
Barricades will be erected east of the trailhead entrance, preventing access to the informal parallel parking where it has been available in the past, officials said. Trailhead parking, in the short term, is expected to remain available at the six-space lot at the entrance, which is located on the north side of 135th Street, east of Route 53.

Alternate parking has been identified for site visitors. Officials encourage the public to access parking at Isle a la Cache Museum, which is located on the south side of 135th Street, just west of Schneider’s Passage.
Plan are in the works to close the existing six-space lot toward the end of the project for repaving after 24 parallel parking spaces are installed along the trailhead road, officials said. Unlike the previous informal parallel parking spots, these official parking spaces will be reinforced and marked.
