No Arrests In Slaying Of Parents, 'Most Innocent Angels' In Romeoville

Two adults and two children were found dead with gunshot wounds on Sunday in Romeoville.

ROMEOVILLE, IL — The slaying of a family of four on Sunday in Romeoville is the "department's top priority," Deputy Chief Chris Burne said Tuesday. Police are investigating the death of four people, two adults and two children, as a homicide.

No update on a possible suspect was given on Tuesday.

The two adults and two children were found dead at their home in the 500 block of Concord Avenue Sunday night with gunshot wounds. The family dogs were also shot to death, police said.

The Will County Coroner's Office has identified the adults as Alberto Rolon, 38, and Zoraida Bartolomei, 32.

The two little boys, named Adriel and Diego, were ages 10 and 7, according to a GoFundMe created for the family. The GoFundMe was created to help with funeral expenses and raise awareness of the homicides.

"These were hardworking people that had just bought their first home," organizers wrote, referring to the Concord Avenue home the couple purchased in April. "Their kids were the sweetest, most innocent angels who could hug your worries away."

Burne said Monday that he did not know if the two adults were married, but confirmed they were the parents of the two children who were killed.

"All officers and professional staff have been working tirelessly on this case. Our detectives and crime scene investigators have spent the last 36 hours collecting a tremendous amount of physical evidence. We were able to determine that this was not a random incident and there was no cause for a shelter-in-place order," Burne said in a statement Tuesday.

Romeoville Mayor John Noak said the entire community is grieving over this tragic incident.

"It is always heartbreaking whenever there is a loss of life, but when there are children involved it’s much more painful. I have directed our social services staff to make themselves available to our community to help begin the healing process. It is important that we conduct a thorough investigation and we have committed our full resources to that task. The victims deserve that," Noak said.

Valley View School District Superintendent Rachel Kinder also sent a message to the community on Monday, sharing that both children were students at R.C. Hill Elementary School in Romeoville.

Kinder said that the District has initiated its crisis response plan to support the school community, including offering a crisis intervention team for students, parents and school personnel.

"This violent incident and loss are sure to raise many emotions, concerns and questions for our entire school community," Kinder wrote, adding that the District was deeply saddened by the tragedy and will do all it can to support the school community.

Romeoville Police said family members became concerned after one of the victims failed to show up for work at 6 a.m. Sunday, and did not respond to phone calls throughout the day.

Officers responding to a well-being check at 8:43 p.m. Sunday discovered the bodies.

Investigators believe the family members died between 9 p.m. Saturday and 5 a.m. Sunday, police said. Police confirmed to Patch that the suspect was not one of the victims.

Burne said the Will County Major Crimes Task Force has been brought in to assist investigators.

"The members of the community have been very helpful in providing us with information and evidence. We continue to seek their assistance in providing anything, including ring-doorbell footage, they may think is helpful to this investigation," Burne said.

Anyone with information should contact the Romeoville Police Department at 815-886-7219.

"We will continue to exhaust every possible resource available, and we will not rest until those responsible for this tragedy are brought to justice," Burne said.
