ROMEOVILLE, IL — Officials from Romeoville and Plainfield unveiled the renovated Budler Park, including new playground equipment. The project was a collaboration between the Village of Romeoville and the Plainfield Park District.

The park at 1912 Trafalger Dr. actually falls within the jurisdiction of Plainfield's park district, Romeoville Mayor John Noak said at the ribbon cutting. In 2018, the Plainfield Park District agreed to share the cost of building a new playground at the park, paying $100,000 of the $275,000 project. As per the intergovernmental agreement, Plainfield will be able to use the park for programming.

"It really shows great intergovernmental cooperation," Noak said.

A ribbon cutting was held Sept. 19 to debut the park's new playground equipment. The old equipment was dismantled and donated to Kids Around the World, a non-profit that builds playgrounds for children in developing countries.

"It was nice to know that we can take something and hopefully have it revitalized in an area where people need it," Noak said.

After renovating Budler Park, Romeoville is working to bring two more parks to the village. In July, the Village Board approved a plan to purchase two parcels of land near Route 53 and Abbeywood Drive for the purposes of building a new park.
