Route 53, Renwick Road Intersection Improvements Begin

ROMEOVILLE, IL — Intersection improvements at Route 53 and Renwick Road will begin on Sept. 16, according to a release from the Illinois Department of Transportation.

The $2.7 million project will modify the existing intersection to allow for an additional dedicated left turn lane on southbound Route 53, install new modernized traffic signals, new guardrail and improved drainage. The project is set to be finished in late 2025, IDOT said.

Throughout construction, at least one lane in both directions will be maintained on Route 53 and on Renwick Road.

The public can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area, according to IDOT. Alternative routes are encouraged. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.
