Sound it Out for These 3 Martinez Students: W-I-N-N-E-R-S
Isidro Gomez, Derrick Perkins and Martin Luis C. Rayos Del Sol advance to the Feb. 4 finals of the Valley View School District Spelling Bee competition.

Three Martinez students will advance to the Feb. 4 Valley View School District 365U Spelling Bee after winning the Romeoville middle school’s Spelling Bee.
Sixth grader Isidro Gomez spelled “wheedle” and “charioteer” correctly in the 9th round to edge Rhiannon McGary who had missed on “bodega” after getting “hackamore” right.
The seventh grade winner was Derrick Perkins who won on “hermitage” after getting “bulbous” correct in the 8th round. Tristan Worley was runnerup, missing “evince.”

Martin Luis C. Rayos Del Sol won the 8th grade title but it took 16 rounds before he won on “injurious.” Sabrina Corral was second.
