Valley View Board Recognizes Romeoville HS Chess Team
IHSA holds one of the largest chess tournaments in the country, with around 1,100 students competing.
ROMEOVILLE, IL - At its Monday meeting, the Valley View Board of Education recognized the Romeoville High School chess team for a successful season.
"We did qualify for the state meet this year," chess team sponsor Steve Stefanski said.
Stefanski said the IHSA holds one of the largest chess tournaments in the country, with around 1,100 students competing.

The state finals were held Feb. 14-15 in Peoria. According to IHSA results, Romeoville earned 149.5 individual points at the state competition. The team winner of the chess state finals was Whitney Young in Chicago.
Romeoville HS students recognized included: Gideon Awin-Ongya, Brian Gallegos, Bradley Magnusson, Giancarlo Martinez, Gianmarco Martinez, John Perricone, Elias Pescador and Maria Shoaib. The team is coached by Mike Moro and Stefanski.
