ROMEOVILLE, IL — Officials with the Valley View School District announced Tuesday that the district's emergency meal program would now only be held on Wednesdays from 9 to 11 a.m. Previously, the meal program - launched to provide food aid to students amid the statewide coronavirus school closures - operated on Mondays and Wednesdays. District officials said the move to one day was the result of increased efficiency, and would not result in a reduced quantity of food provided.
“We’re constantly becoming more efficient in operating the Emergency Meals for Kids Program,” Mrs. Meghan Gibbons, VVSD’s Director of Nutrition Services, said in a news release on the issue. “Those efficiencies allow us to go to a one day per week availability, which provides convenience to the families we serve as they only need to leave their home once per week in order to utilize Emergency Meals for Kids. The total quantity of food items distributed will remain the same for the once per week pick-up as the quantity distributed for the twice per week pick-up.”

The meals provided on Wednesdays will be made available to all Valley View students under 18 at five locations. In Bolingbrook, meals can be picked up at Bolingbrook High School, Brooks Middle School, and Humphrey Middle School; in Romeoville, Romeoville High School and Lukancic Middle School. Meals will be served in a 'grab and go' fashion; families can drive into these locations' parking lots and district staff will place the food on the pavement next to their cars.
Each family will receive enough breakfasts and lunches to feed two children until the following Wednesday. No accommodations have been made for special diets or allergies and the meals may contain peanuts.
