The boyfriend was jailed on a charge of involuntary manslaughter even though his girlfriend wasn't dead yet, according to officials.

JOLIET, IL — A Joliet man claimed he accidentally shot his girlfriend in the head, leaving her brain dead, according to officials.

Officers were sent to the Evergreen Terrace apartments shortly before 9 a.m. Monday and were met in the stairwell of a building by 31-year-old Jasper Johnson, police said.

According to police, Johnson told the officers, “I shot her accidentally, I shot her accidentally, I shot my girlfriend.”
