SHOREWOOD, IL —You don't see many storefront vacancies around Shorewood for very long. But since June 1, the Savarino Pizza and Broasted Chicken restaurant remained empty along Route 52 after a very successful 13-year tenure in Shorewood. On Wednesday, the Savarino's property will spring back to life as a new restaurant called La Dolce Pizza will open for customers around 10 a.m.

The two entrepreneurs who are opening La Dolce Pizza each have around 25 years of experience working in Chicago-area pizzerias: Oscar Vera and Sergio Gomez. "Our main thing is pizzas and pastas," Vera told Joliet Patch. "We will be open on Thanksgiving, that's very important. Takeout or delivery."

The motto for La Dolce Pizza is, "The Best In Town."

As for their pizzas, La Dolce Pizza features a Chicago-style deep dish, a pan pizza, a stuffed pizza, a double-dough pizza and a traditional thin crust.

La Dolce Pizza will be a carryout and delivery restaurant only. La Dolce also kept the same phone number that belonged to Savarino's: 815-725-1800. La Dolce Pizza will stay open 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

"Near the corner of Jefferson Street and River Road," its menu proclaims.

The address for La Dolce Pizza is 1134 W. Jefferson St. It's in the same business plaza as Will County Brewing Company, Happy Place Cafe Family Restaurant and Mauve Nosh & Libations.

La Dolce Pizza Is Not Just Pizza, And There's Also A Catering Menu

The business partners told Joliet Patch that La Dolce Pizza will have a standard $4 delivery fee for all food orders delivered around Shorewood, Plainfield and west Joliet; deliveries will also go into parts of Minooka and Channahon.

Vera wanted area residents to know that La Dolce Pizza will not be imposing any type of credit card processing fee for customers paying by credit cards and debit cards.

Shorewood's newest takeout restaurant will feature lunch specials starting at $6 seven days a week, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The lunch specials include beef with fries and a drink, pastas, small cheese pizzas, calzones, house or Caesar salads. There will be a jumbo slice and a drink for $5.50.

La Dolce Pizza will feature single slice pizza with pepperoni, sausage or cheese as part of its daily regular menu. Slices will be $4 or $5.50 for a slice and a 20-ounce soda.

"Our prices are very, very, low," Vera remarked.

And La Dolce Pizza is not just about pizza.

The regular menu for Shorewood's newest restaurant includes sandwiches such as Italian beef, Italian sausage, chicken Parmesan, meatballs and grilled chicken breast. There is a long list of pasta dishes including spaghetti and mostaccioli, meat ravioli, cheese ravioli, fettuccine alfredo, mostaccioli alfredo and angel hair pomodoro.

Signature dishes are the baked lasagna and penne vodka.

There is a fried shrimp dinner, a four-piece fried chicken dinner, chicken Vesuvio, chicken Marsala and chicken Limone.

The business partners said catering plans to be a major component of La Dolce Pizza. Photos of the catering menu are included at the bottom of this Joliet Patch story.
