Five Skokie BP Gas Stations Sold 'Off-Spec' Fuel
Information from BP's website reveals that five BP gas stations in the Skokie area sold "off-spec" fuel last week. Motorists who used the gasoline experienced hard starting or failure to start overall.
A total of five Skokie BP gas stations have been identified as having "off-specification gasoline," according to BP's website. The information was released earlier today.
BP recalled their unleaded regular gasoline last week, on Aug. 22, and said the problem stemmed from a shipment from Witting, Ind. between Aug. 13 and 17. Motorists throughout the region began experiencing problems with hard starting or getting their cars to start at all.
The company believes fuel stored in a tank at the storage depot could cause hard starting, stalling and other issues, according to a statement from BP.

The following gas stations have been identified as ones that sold the "off-specification" gas:
- BP Gas Station, 5035 Touhy Ave.
- BP Gas Station, 3750 Touhy Ave.
- BP Gas Station, 3301 Dempster St.
- BP Gas Station, 5001 Old Orchard Road
- BP Gas Station, 840 Skokie Blvd.
A Skokie BP employee told Patch that her gas station was shut down for two days to address the problem. She added that the problem has since been fixed and that "everything is fine." The woman spoke on condition of being anonymous.
