Five Skokie School Districts Closed Thursday; Two Remain Open

Here's what's up Today in Skokie. Many Jewish residents are celebrating Rosh Hashana.


Here's what's happening Today In Skokie for Thursday, Sept. 5.


  • The Manga/Anime Club for teens meets at the Skokie Library at 7 p.m. Japanese snacks will be served. We hear crispy-baked seaweed is pretty good. No, really!
  • Many schools are closed Thursday as members of the Jewish faith celebrate Rosh Hashana. School districts closed include Evanston-Skokie District 65, Skokie-Morton Grove District 69, Niles Township High School District 219 (Niles West and Niles North High Schools), Skokie District 68, East Prairie School District 73.  Remaining in session: Skokie School District 73.5. Fairview District 72 also appears to be in session, according to its website.
  • Interpretative High Holiday Services are held at Lubavitch Chabad of Skokie, starting at 9 a.m. Kids' activities are available, too. 
  • Like to sing in the shower? How about singing in church? St. Peter's Catholic Church welcomes you as the parish choir resumes weekly rehearsals at 7:15 p.m. Thursday. Beginners or Beyonce welcome.
