Learn To Identify Trees This Weekend

There are many fun things to do, from local musicians playing to 'touch a firetruck' for kids to a gender-reversed Hamlet, a scenic triathlon and more.

The Jewish high holiday of Yom Kippur is being celebrated in Skokie synagogues. It lasts from Friday evening through Saturday evening.
"Lemonade, Cookies and Firetruck, Oh My!" is an event for children and families Saturday at 10:30 a.m. to noon at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 5201 Galitz Street, Skokie. Kids will be able to touch a firetruck, have lemonade and cookies, learn about fire safety and have playground time. However, bad weather or a fire emergency may suspend the event.
"Sweets to the Sweet," a gender-reversed version of Hamlet, er, Hamlette, is playing at the Gorilla Tango Skokie Theater.There's also the "Tapmen: Endless Nights" production.
"Tree ID Made Easy" at Emily Oaks Nature Center will give you a basic introduction to identifying types of trees, such as green ash, red oak, silver maple, etc. 1:30 p.m. For ages 18+. $16 for Skokie residents, $20 non-residents.
Second Saturday Coffeehouse features local bands and musicians playing at the Ethical Humanist Society of Greater Chicago. Refreshments provided. Donations ($8 minimum) benefit a worthy cause.
The North Shore Triathlon, 6:30 a.m. Sunday, includes a 5K run past the Bahai Temple, a 400m swim in Lake Michigan and a bike ride up the North Shore. Meet in Gillson Park, Wilmette.
