Drug Trafficker Distributed Fentanyl, Heroin In Chicago Suburbs

MT. PROSPECT, IL — A man who trafficked fentanyl and other drugs in the Chicago Suburbs while possessing multiple guns was sentenced to more than 10 years in prison, federal authorities announced Monday.
Last year, a jury found Omari Andrews Jr., 26 of Mt. Prospect, guilty of possessing an AR-15 style firearm and three handguns while trafficking fentanyl, heroin, cocaine, crack cocaine, and marijuana in 2023.
Andrews also pleaded guilty to distributing fentanyl and heroin in Westmont, Villa Park, Des Plaines and Hillside in late 2022 and early 2023.

Police departments in Skokie and Evanston assisted in the federal investigation.
“The defendant possessed a small arsenal of guns and ammunition in his apartment to protect his drug trafficking activity,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Alejandro G. Ortega argued in the government’s sentencing memorandum. “Drugs, and especially fentanyl, are a scourge to the public health and to law enforcement across the country, and a stain on the community.”

On Thursday, Andrews was sentenced to 10 years and 3 months in federal prison.
