Featured Obituary:

Mark T. Hogan, age 71, of Lake Forest, Illinois and formerly of Birmingham, Michigan, passed away surrounded by his family on April 16, 2023.

Mark was born in Chicago, IL and attended St. Francis Xavier in Wilmette, IL and New Trier High School. An avid fan of the Chicago Cubs and Bears, he spent his free time playing and watching sports. Upon graduation he went on to the University of Illinois in Champaign, IL. Mark was an active member of the University of Illinois Football Program acting as Manager and even suited up when needed. While at the University of Illinois he met former General Motors CEO and fellow Illini Thomas Murphy. Mr. Murphy held a recruiting event in Champaign and asked a small group of students to bring their favorite professor. Mark brought the Chaplain of the football team and a mentor of his, Father Edward J. Duncan. Mr. Murphy was so impressed by Mark he offered him a scholarship for graduate school. Mark went on to earn his MBA from Harvard Business School and rejoined General Motors after graduation. Mark held various positions in his time at General Motors, notably, General Manager for NUMMI (a joint venture between GM and Toyota), Executive Director of GM’s North American Operations Planning Group, President of Toyota do Brasil, President of eGM, and head of Advanced Vehicle Development. He joined Automotive Supplier Magna International as President in 2004. In 2008 he joined The Vehicle Production Group, an automotive manufacturer that produced handicap accessible vehicles. At the request of his old friend Akio Toyoda, Mark joined Toyota as an Advisor to the North American Leadership team. In 2013 he accepted an invitation to sit on the Toyota Motor Corporation Board of Directors becoming the first American to serve as Outside Director. He served on the board for five years before becoming a Global Advisor until his retirement. Mark cherished the connections he made throughout his career and remained friends with many of his coworkers until his passing.
