Featured Obituary:

Ramon Racelis Jr., age 84, passed away peacefully with his loving family beside him on June 7, 2022.

Ray, as his friends called him, was born on June 20, 1937, in Manila, Philippines to Ramon Racelis Sr. and Elsie (Aylett) where he also lived with his sisters Elisa and Mary until 1945 when the family moved to New York. Ray went on to attend Syracuse University, played lacrosse with Jim Brown, majored in international business, and met the love of his life, Joan Hanigan.

Upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army and was assigned to the 4th Infantry Division stationed at Fort Lewis near Tacoma Washington. After completing his service, he married Joan and eventually settled in Chicago Illinois where he worked, attended the University of Chicago MBA program, and started a family, daughters Elisa, Laura and son Christopher.

Ray always wanted to work and live internationally so he accepted a job transfer opportunity and moved the family to Mexico City where they lived for 8 years, and son Steven was born. After moving back to the United States in 1974, they became longtime residents of Glenview Illinois where Ray avidly supported his children’s interest in the arts, sports, and gaming. After a successful career in sales with his last position being National Sales Manager Full Line Dealers, Ray retired from General Binding Corporation in 1997. He and Joan spent their winters in Lakewood Ranch Florida for 20 years where they continued making amazing memories and friendships. Four years ago, they moved back to Glenview as residents of the Vi retirement community to be closer to their children and grandchildren.

Over the years, Ray made friends wherever he went. He enjoyed golf, traveling, reading, poetry, crossword puzzles, and watching his Chicago and Syracuse sports teams.

Family was most important to Ray who made it a priority to be at all his kids and grandkids events and shared his passions for golf, lacrosse, and board games, traditions that continue today with his children and grandchildren.
